BARRY DONOVAN GENERAL CONTRACTOR, Inc.

Is an owner-operated general contracting firm specializing in the construction/management of residential/commercial projects in Nantucket, Massachusetts. The business was begun in 1992 and our projects are mostly renovations and new residences. We offer design services and permit processing as well.

The owner, Barry Donovan, is a licensed general contractor within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He is also a graduate civil engineer, with 36 years of experience in all aspects of the building industry – from constructing bridges and high rise towers, to crafting wooden residential homes.

Having successfully completed dozens of projects in the past 15 years here, the firm is recognized as being one of the most competitive and reliable builders on the island.

A Umass Amherst Civil engineering graduate, Mr. Donovan’s background includes a 10 year history in heavy civil construction (skyscrapers, bridges, tunnels, highway builders) in Boston and Providence.

1992 was the year Mr. Donovan set out upon his own contracting venture in the budding construction market on Nantucket Island. Since that time, his company has completed  several dozen  projects consisting of residential renovations,  newly-constructed residences and commercial construction.

Not only a builder, Mr. Donovan has designed and built seven notable residential/commercial buildings upon the Island.

  • Worked as project manager building Miacomet Village Phase-2 low income housing project; 1996
  • Project manager upon the complete renovation of The African Meeting House in 1997
  • Designed and built 7 residences on Nantucket
